J ROCHESTER, 91, DIES IN F CITY HOME

FOREST CITY (C) -- James H Rochester, 91 year-old lifelong resident of Forest City, died at 1 a.m. Sunday in his home after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Johnson Funeral Home at Manito with Rev Harold D Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation began at 2 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Born at Forest City Apr 8, 1871, he was a son of Samuel and Perlina Hall Rochester. He married Nora Counterman at Pekin June 2, 1929, and she survies.

Other survivors include two brothers, Earl H Rochester of Forest City, and Jess Rochester of Creve Coeur. Five sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Mr Rochester had served as custodian of Forest City schools 25 years prior to retiring four years ago. Before that he had been a building contractor.

As a scoutmaster he head organized several troops in Central Illinois.

Forest City, Ill., June 13 - The funeral services for Samuel Rochester, 77, a respected and old time resident of this place, were held from the local Methodist Episcopal church this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. Joseph Butler. Burial was in the cemetery near the church.

The decedent was a member of Co. E, 27th Illinois Volunteer Infantry in which regiment he served for three years and many veterans from neighboring cities were present at the services.

He is survived by three daughters and four sons: Mrs. Bessie Sauter of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Mrs. Ida Peoples of Radcliff, Ia.; Mrs. Emma Whittaker of Decatur; James and Samuel, Jr., at home; Jesse of Pekin, Ill., and Earl of Marshalltown, Ia., besides other relatives and friends.

WILLIAM ROCHESTER

William R Rochester, 93, of Manito, died at 9:25 a.m. Friday, August 27, 1999, at his residence.

Born July 5, 1906 in Forest City to Earl H and Daisy Barnes Rochester, he married Nelda M Bartels on June 21, 1926 in Havana. She died October 17, 1997.

Two sisters also preceded him in death.

Surviving are four sons, Dale (Bonnie) of Pekin, Ray (Joyce) of Auburn, IN, Larry (Cheryl) of Lawndale, CA, and Ron (Sharon) of Peoria; two daughters, Mrs Stanley (Kathy) Embree of Manito and Mrs Paul (Eleanor) Gosnell of Tavares, FL; one brother, Paul of CA, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was a machinist at Caterpillar Inc in East Peoria for more than 28 years, retiring in 1970.

He was a former member of Manito-Forest City Optimist Club.

He was one of the original Forman Ambulance volunteers.

Services were at 1 p.m. Monday at Maas Funeral Home. Burial was in Meadow Lawn Cemetery.
